Test for Iron in water
Test for Iron in water is based on colour indicator.
Procedure:
1st step : 20, 18,16,14,12,10 and 8 drops of distilled water was taken in 7 test tubes with a calibrated pipette.
2nd step : Adding 0,2,4,6,8,10 and 12 drops of Mohr’s salt solution to each of the above tubes so that the volume in each is equal to 20 mL.
3rd step : 20 drops of sample water was taken into a different tube with the same pipette.
4th step : Adding 1 drops of Hydroxylamine Hydrochloride solution into each tube.
5th step Add 3 drops of 1,10 phenanthroline solution to each tube, stir the solutions and wait for 5 minutes for the colour to develop ( reddish pink colour).
3rd step : 20 drops of sample water was taken into a different tube with the same pipette.
4th step : Adding 1 drops of Hydroxylamine Hydrochloride solution into each tube.
5th step Add 3 drops of 1,10 phenanthroline solution to each tube, stir the solutions and wait for 5 minutes for the colour to develop ( reddish pink colour).
.Compare the colour of sample water with the colour of the other tubes.
.Deduce the amount of iron from the colour chart of iron.
Result: The amount of iron in the sample is ________mg/L.
