Dextrose serves to replenish lost nutrients and electrolytes. The agent provides metabolic energy and is the primary ingredient in oral rehydration salts (ORS) and is used in intravenous (IV) fluids to provide nutrients to patients under intensive care who are unable to receive them by the oral route.
It has many uses, including sweetening foods and extending the shelf life of many products. Bodybuilders may use dextrose as a supplement. Doctors use dextrose to treat many conditions, including dehydration and low blood sugar. Dextrose is an effective treatment for low blood sugar.
Similarly, several studies have also demonstrated that dextrose infusion [18,20-22] results in increased blood pressure and impaired endothelial function; however; the deleterious vascular effects seen with dextrose infusion are related to the rise in blood glucose concentration
