Epoxidized soybean oil (ESBO) is a collection of organic compounds obtained from the epoxidation of soybean oil. It is used as a plasticizer and stabilizer in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics. ESBO is a yellowish viscous liquid.
The oxygen-containing ternary ring structure of epoxy soybean oil has great tension, which can be polymerized with an amino group, hydroxyl group, anhydride, and group-containing unsaturated bond containing an active hydrogen atom, and the polymer with different properties can be prepared by ring-opening grafting between epoxy bonds. It is a very promising raw material for the polymer industry.

Uses

ESBO is also used in PVC cling films for wrapping foods and toys.
