Application & Dosage
Iron Control Liquid is designed primarily for:
Matrix Acidizing
Used as an additive in acidizing fluids to control dissolved iron generated during contact between acid and tubulars, scale or formation minerals.
Well Stimulation
Helps minimize secondary iron precipitation during stimulation operations as the injected acid reacts and becomes spent.
Wellbore Cleaning
Suitable for treatment fluids used to remove rust, iron oxide deposits and mineral scale from tubing and associated equipment.
Acid Scale Removal
Can be incorporated into acid descaling formulations where dissolution of iron-containing deposits is expected.
Pickling / Tubing Cleaning
Useful during acid pickling and pre-treatment of tubing where significant quantities of iron may enter the cleaning solution.
Acid Pre-Flush
May be incorporated into selected pre-flush formulations where iron stabilization is required prior to the main acid treatment.
Procedure for effective IRON CONTROL during acidic treatment:
- Expected dissolved iron concentration
- Ferric-to-ferrous iron ratio
- Acid concentration
- Type of acid system
- Formation mineralogy
- Calcium concentration
- Bottom-hole temperature
- Contact time
- Amount of rust and iron scale present
- Shut-in time
- 1-5% by volume of the acid treatment fluid
- may be evaluated as an initial dosage range.
Typical Treatment Dosage Guidelines
| Expected Iron Loading | Suggested Starting Evaluation |
|---|---|
| Low | 1-2% v/v |
| Moderate | 2-3% v/v |
| High | 3-5% v/v |
| Very high / severe iron contamination | Laboratory determination required |
